The Low-Level Radioactive Waste Management Office (LLRWMO) provides information on low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) and its management in Canada to the public, governments and regulatory agencies.
The LLRWMO engages public and municipal support through community consultations and stakeholder involvement. Establishment of co-existence programs and partnerships are key to resolving LLRW issues in communities across Canada. Although locations, geography and cultural settings vary, this approach has remained integral throughout the LLRWMO’s 30-years of operation. Through its Information Program, the LLRWMO applies these well-established principles and practices, as it delivers on the Federal Government’s commitment to historic waste management.
Both LLRWMO offices in Ottawa and Port Hope respond to enquiries and requests for information from Canadian and other communities around the world. The LLRWMO responds through a variety of communication channels, including e-mail, telephone, letter, through the web site and in person. Annual reports, brochures and various communication materials provide regular up-to-date information to the public on the LLRWMO, its programs and projects.
Best practices, technical expertise and practical experience is shared by the LLRWMO within the international community through papers, presentations and attendance at conferences and meetings.
This web site provides links to various publications (including LLRWMO material) on historic LLRW management.
