The LLRWMO is the federal government's agent for the cleanup and long-term management of historic low-level radioactive waste. As part of its responsibilities in this capacity, the LLRWMO provides the following services:

• Cleanup and remediation of small residential and commercial sites contaminated with historic radium or uranium waste.
  
  

• Removal of waste from the above activities and storage at the LLRWMO's storage facility at AECL's Chalk River Laboratories.
  
  

• Provision of radiological support for the cleanup of properties contaminated with historic radium or uranium waste.
  
  

• Planning and technical support, as well as cleanup and remediation, for other government departments when needed.
