About the LLRWMO

Services

The LLRWMO is the federal government's agent for the cleanup and long-term management of historic low-level radioactive waste (LLRW). As part of its responsibilities in this capacity, the LLRWMO provides the following services:

  • Characterization, identification, management and remediation of small residential and commercial sites contaminated with historic LLRW waste.

  • Removal of waste from the above activities and placement in temporary or long-term management facilities as appropriate.

  • Provision of radiological support for the cleanup of properties contaminated with historic LLRW waste.

  • Planning and technical support, as well as cleanup and remediation, for other government departments when needed.

  • The LLRWMO provides technical advice on the identification and management of radioactive artifacts found on public and private properties throughout Canada.
