Port Hope Area Initiative
Property Value Protection under the Port Hope Area Initiative
The Property Value Protection (PVP) Program was officially launched on October 1, 2001, to compensate property owners who realize financial loss on
the sale of their property, loss of rental income or mortgage renewal difficulties as a result of the Port Hope Area Initiative.
The Port Hope Area Initiative involves the proposed cleanup and long-term management of low-level radioactive waste materials in the Port Hope area. As part of the Initiative, the Government of Canada is making the PVP Program available to owners of property located within the former Town of Port Hope and designated areas of the Municipality of Clarington and the former Township of Hope.
Property owners who demonstrate that financial loss or mortgage renewal difficulties occurred between October 5, 2000, and the termination of the PVP Program,
two years after the completion of the long-term management facility, are eligible to claim compensation.
The PVP Program office is located in Port Hope, Ontario. Staff are available to assist property owners interested in filing for compensation. Claim applications and information material are also available.
